Early Childhood

How it all Began

I was born on April 22, 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan to Michael and Wen-Mei Rhynard as Huan-Chen Rhynard, or 饒睆禛. I am the third child out of five in my family. My siblings are:

  • Shu-Wen "Joyce" Wang
  • Wan-Chi "Kathy" Rhynard
  • Hsin-Yi Stacy Hargitt
  • Chia-Tzu "Laura" Rhynard

Here is a picture of me as a baby, probably just a few months old.

You can see my crazy, wild hair and it looks like I have a cloth diaper on!

So I decided that since I don't remember anything about myself at this age, that I would interview my parents. So a lot of what I will say about myself in the Early Childhood pages is from my mom.

Pregnacy and Birth

My mom's pregnacy with me was pretty tough, though about the same as it was with all my sisters. She had morning sickness for many months; couldn't eat much and what she did eat, she threw up.

I was about on time, no more than a week late. I was a little over 9.5 pounds. Since my mom has diabetes, all of us kids were pretty big, except Joyce (she was only 7 pound something). I was born at 9:24pm on a Saturday. My mom didn't get to see me until I was all cleaned up. In Taiwan, the babies don't get to sleep with their moms and are kept in the nursery. My mom only got to see me twice a day or so, and she was in the hospital for 5 days! My older sisters went to the hospital to see our mom and I, and we all took the taxi home together.
